HOMEWORK

Part 1 - Explore

An invitation to reflect on the events, incidents, and stories that changed your mind, your feelings, or your direction in life and work... "The Making of You"

  1. Explore the questions in each category below, responding in free-form writing style.

    • Don't think too hard! Just let it flow.

  2. Let it inform your work as we go forward.

    • We recommend keeping a journal (analogue or digital) for all of your Brand of Me work.)

The Past

Pick one — or more!

  • What is the hardest thing you have ever done? What did that teach you about yourself?

  • What are the two people who have had the biggest impact in your life? What did you learn from them?

  • What was your first meaningful job?  What valuable lessons did you learn there?

  • What's your proudest memory? Why?

The Present

Pick at least two!

  • When are you at your best?

  • What inspires you and why?

  • Who and/or what deserves your time?

  • What motivates you?

  • What change are you trying to create?

The Future

Answer all

  • Is there something about the “you of now” you’d like to reset on behalf of the “you in the future?" Why?

  • What’s one thing you absolutely wouldn’t change about yourself? Why?

  • How can you bring more of that one thing you wouldn’t change into your work?

  • How would you like to be remembered?

Part 2 - Craft

Building Your Backstory

  • Sink into the different creative approaches to backstory writing (see below), and select one that feels right for you.

  • Create a first draft — don't focus on perfection; just get rolling!

  • Share with The LC for KHP pre-read

    • (You will receive an invitation to our sharing portal for uploading and communicating)

    • You are welcome to also share highlights of your journaling responses if you’d like!

  • Note that we'll have mini 1:1 share sessions in our full day workshop

Keep in Mind...

  • Really honor your origin story… what made you you

  • Weave in small details to bring color and richness to the picture you are forming

  • It’s identity, not biography… you don’t need all the details, but rather big markers

  • Explore the path that led you to where you are today, and what is catalyzing where you are heading next
