Active Listening 2
SESSION FOLLOW UP
A Dance, Not a Duel
We gained a deeper understanding around how to "support" versus "shift" when we are actively listening. We also learned how our "wizard brain' can sometimes cede control to our 'lizard brain,' and how to stop it.
HOMEWORK
PRACTICE
Stop an Amygdala Hijack!
Proactively approach (or reflect upon) a situation where your lizard brain might kick in.
Work on a personal practice and put it into action, using the five steps below:
Moving from Lizard to Wizard
Be mindful
Pause (take a breath or two)
Ask “what” instead of “why”
Take a break
Accept responsiblity
WATCH
Observe a great listener and leader in the making — someone who knows how to both pitch AND catch:
The Speech that made Obama president
"One of the most powerful public addresses of all time, as not-yet-President Obama introduced an “Audacity of Hope” message in 2004."
